About us

Our museum is situated in the building complex of a former Jesuit College in the center of the medieval town Bamberg. It uniquely combines historical and modern elements in its exhibits. Our guests can admire one of the oldest and most beautiful natural history halls in the world: the famous Bamberg Bird Hall. This “museum within a museum” holds more than two thousand colorful animals and geologic specimens in a classicist ambience. This setting allows visitors insights into the view of nature as it was offered in a natural history cabinet two centuries ago. At a time when an ostrich was still perceived in Europe as a miracle from an incomprehensible world.

In contrast to this historical natural history cabinet, the modern permanent exhibitions are dedicated to various natural history topics, with a regional focus. With regularly changing special exhibitions, we also offer the opportunity to learn something new about nature during every visit.

You can find a short information film about the museum here.
